An elegant Pinot Noir from the exception Eminence vineyard on the Whitlands Plateau - cold climate and high altitude at 830m.
Densely jam packed full of bright, fresh fruit with a slurpy, smooth texture. Flavours of juicy plums, ripe blueberry and raspberry, dark cherry, aromatic violets, touch of dried herbs and mint, sweet spices, cola, forest mushrooms, and a hints of charcuterie. Dry and finely balanced, fresh and silky, with smooth, herbal-spicy finish.

NERD NOTES
Vineyard:
Over & Over Pinot Noir celebrates a very special ultra high elevation site, the Eminence VIneyard on the Whitlands Plateau (830m). Grown by the wonderful Burder family and the ecology focused Peter Allen, this Pinot shows the proper plasticity that a single vineyard in an extreme clime should. Muscular in moderate years, ephemeral in the cooler ones... and 2023 was definitely the latter.
Production:
Internally one of our greatest achievements for 2023. Another cool year up on the hill had us worried, baumes were lower than the 2022 but we thought flavor development was definitely further ahead and we were right! Patience in the cellar also proved a winning move, creating what we think is the best release of this wine to date.
Picked on the 26th of April with wet weather fast approaching at 10.9 baume.
Destemmed without crushing and soaked at 4C for 4 days with two pump overs daily.
Left to undergo natural ferment for 3 weeks at which point it was pressed off just before it was dry.
Left to complete fermentation, settled racked and then transferred to 90% old french oak and 5% new Hungarian hogshead and 5% new Transylvanian hogshead.
11 months resting in oak and then the blend was put together at which point it was racked once more prior to bottling.
Unfined, unfiltered with a small addition of sulphur.
ABOUT KONPIRA MARU
"Konpira Maru started, as many great ideas do, as an idea born from two mates having a beer at the pub.
Working in the retail, production and education sectors of the wine industry for many years, we were searching for our own creative outlet. Sharing similar viticultural, winemaking and beer-drinking values, we set out on our vinous journey and, from these humble beginnings, produced the first vintage in 2014, which resulted in just 600 bottles.
We’d been frustrated at how expensive interesting wines were, the wines we were wanting to drink, and how we couldn’t just crack a bottle mid-week on our meagre wages. So we set out to make interesting wines with minimal intervention but maximum care - wines you could afford to have with a bowl of spaghetti on a Wednesday night.
Thus was born the Konpira Maru mission statement: make mid-week wines great again. Make wines that were full of character, with a focus on affordability and a high drinkability. Wines that aren’t so expensive that you feel the need to talk about them the whole time during your meal, you can just enjoy the company you're with (and have another bottle)!
Now we make wines from across Queensland and Victoria, from some of the lesser known, mostly cool climate wine regions, with the help of our crew of amazing growers.
In 2016, we took on our own Whitlands vineyard, sitting high above the King Valley. Here we farm Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris organically on beautiful red soil, surrounded by stunning sub-alpine Eucalypt forest. A magic part of the world.
We hope you love ‘em as much as we do."
- Al & Sam.
