A fragrant and balanced Mencia blend from Bierzo in Northern Spain.

Subtle and perfumed aromatics, with fresh florals and expressive red fruit notes. Opens up in flavour, with notes of red cherries, plums, and pomegranate, supported by warm baking spices and a savoury finish.

Smooth and pretty on the palate, silky with a touch of crispness in texture, fine lines of tannin meets fresh stony acidity.
Nerd Notes

Predominantly Mencia from 100+ year old pre-phylloxera vineyards in the hills surrounding Valtuille. Hand harvested grapes, fermented as separate parcels with approximately 25% whole bunches in French oak.

Named after an Ancient Roman hill-site surrounding by vineyards, Castro Ventosa is run by Raul Perez and newphew Cesar Marquez. The estate is based in the village of Valtuille de Abajo, the heart of winemaking in Bierzo, and is made up of 85 hectares split between Bierzo and Ribeira Sacra.
