Tasting Notes

An aromatic red from Bierzo, along the Camino de Santiago.

Light red berry and cherry fruit flavours, a touch of plum, hints of dried herb and spice, finishes on a slight earthy tone, with a smokey character holding it all together.
Smooth on the palate, textured with well-integrated tannins balanced against an underlying earthy acidity, dry, with a subtle grip on every sip.

Producer: César Marquez
Region: Bierzo - Castilla y León, Spain
Grapes: Mencía

Nerd Notes

César is the nephew of the renowned Raul Pérez, and has Bierzo in his blood, in fact he comes from the family that has owned Castro Ventosa since 1752!

He rented a corner of his Uncle Raul’s winery to make the first few vintages of his wine and has since skyrocketed to fame for his style of Mencia and Godello.

Here we have his "Regional" expression which is sourced from over 40 Parajes or parcels of vineyards across Bierzo. From multiple aspects and soils types, Cesar has crafted a silky and elegant expression of Bierzo.
