Nerd Notes

Vineyards located near Villié Morgon, with 40 to 60 year old vines growing on clay soils and organic viticulture (with an emphasis on soil cultivation).

Hand harvested grapes. Vinified through semi-carbonic maceration and spontaneous fermentation, before being aged for months in stainless steel tanks.

Bottled with minimal added sulphur.

Chateau Cambon was the joint venture of two of Beaujolais’ most famous natural wine families – Marcel and Marie Lapierre, with Jean-Claude and Genevieve Chanudet (and Genevieve’s father Joseph Chamonard). In 1995 they bought the then bankrupt estate situated just south of Morgon on flat land. Originally planted in 1914, some of the original vines still exist and are used in exceptional years to produce a few barrels of Le Cambon. Today Marie Lapierre and Jean-Claude Chanudet manage the domaine. Meeting up each year is a brief highlight of our annual trip to Europe as the two dear old friends trade stories and jibes and play beautifully off each other.
