Tasting Notes

A refreshing, elegant Txakoli from a great little producer based in Biskaia, Spain, overlooking the Bay of Biscay.

White florals, bright citrus, a touch of white apple, wild herbs, and saline minerality. Light and dry, vibrant seaside acidity, balanced, and a soft yet mineral clean texture. Finishes with citrus and and saline clarity.

Great value drink - Magic

Nerd Notes

Producer: Doniene Gorrondona
Region: Bizkaia - Basque Country (Euskadi), Spain
Grapes: Txakoli Blend - Hondarrabi Zuri (91%), Hondarrabi Zuri Zerratia (3%), Munemahata (35), & Hondarrabi Beltza (1%)

Traditional Txakolina grapes from the Spanish Basque country, grown with organic and environmentally sustainable viticulture.
Grapes are handpicked, destemmed, and then pneumatically pressed.
Fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, and then aged on lees for 6 months before being racked, single course filtered, and bottled.

"Gorrondona are one of a bunch of young Basque wineries who are elevating the classic, lean, dry, Txakoli style from the tourist fodder poured from great height in tiny bars along the lanes of San Sebastian into serious wine. Concentrating on organic farming, being careful with clonal and site selection and forgoing commercial yeasts. Although thankfully this doesn't prevent their wines from being seriously good in when consumed alongside huge helping of Pinxhos in rowdy atmospheres. "
