Tasting Notes

A super fancy and ultra serious single vineyard Riesling from one of the great estates of Kamptal. The Gaisberg is always amongst the most sort after wines from Hirsch and is both delicious now and very age-worthy.

Dry and complex with notes of stone fruit, citrus and kitchen herbs. Beautifully mineral on the palate with fine acidity balanced by pure, bright fruit. Concentrated, complex and lovely.

Producer: Hirsch
Region: Kamptal (Lower Austria), Austria
Grapes: Riesling

Nerd Notes

This southwest-facing vineyard is located in the southern foothills of the Manhartsberg mountain range. The soil consists mainly of non-calcareous, siliceous brown earth with a sandy, slightly silty consistency and a significant grit content. The soil over weathered mica schist bedrock is generally non-calcareous; calcareous soils are only found over amphibolite lenses or remnants of loess. The vineyard is managed with biodynamic viticulture.

Classified as Erste Lage 1 OTW Zobing. Essentially a premier cru vineyard with Zobing being the Cru.

The grapes were harvested in October 2021, whole bunch pressed, fermented with natural yeasts in stainless steel and large oak barrels. The wine was then aged on lees for 7 months before bottling.

Bottled with minimal added sulphur.
