🍇 📍 Rioja

🍷 Rich Reds

Tasting Notes

A richly dark fruited single vineyard Rioja.

Floral, densely meaty but fluid, plummy and round with lots of ripe skins, a touch of tobacco and a lash of medicinal wood bitters. Regally earthy in deep purple tones, it literally spangles with mineral detail, like a sequin dress. Within the tannins, you find both chalkiness and juiciness, performing a density-relief moebus-strip double act.

Producer: Jose Gil - Jose Y Vicky
Region: San Vicente de la Sonsierra (Rioja Alta) - La Rioja, Spain
Grapes: Tempranillo and a little Viura (approx 10%)

Nerd Notes

San Vicente sits in the North-West of La Rioja, between Laguardia and Labastida, situated on a hill-peak in the valley floor near the Ebro river.

Paraje el Bardallo comes from the 'el Bardallo' valley (paraje), to the north-west of San Vincente - one of six smaller valleys that surround the town. The vineyard lies at 515m above sea level with a northeast orientation, and is made up of 40 year old dry-grown bush vines in calcareous soil.

The wine is made from tempranillo and a small amount of Viura from the same vineyard. The grapes are hand harvested and destemmed, before being fermented in concrete and aged for 10 months in 500L French oak barrels.
