Tasting Notes

A traditionally made Nerello Mascalese blend from the slopes of Sicily's Mount Etna.

Tones of savoury earth are front and centre, opening up to pretty highlights of red cherry and wild berry fruits, floral hints, with a rustic smokey edge, and underlying stony minerality.
Rich in flavour, layered and complex on the palate, dry, and held together a fine tannic structure and bright mineral acidity. Full of traditional rustic charm.

Nerd Notes

Winemaker: Salvo Foti
Region: Mount Etna - Sicily, Italy
Grapes: Nerello Mascalese 90%, Nerello Cappuccio 10%,

Hand harvested Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio from the slopes of My Etna.
The wine is made using traditional Etnean winemaking practices - using the Palmento, without refrigeration, and no wood aging.
The grapes are pressed as whole bunches, with the first crush being done by feet (as is tradition).
The juice is macerated on skins and stalks for 8 days, and undergoes spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts.
The wine is then aged for 6 months in terracotta amphorae located underground.
The wine is naturally settled, bottle filtered, with minimal added sulphur.
