A complex and textual Beaujolais, it's fresh and bright fruited.
Producer: Domaine du Bon Pas - Anaïs Chateau and Nicolas Bompas
Region: Régnié, Beaujolais, France
Grapes: Gamay
Bright red fruits, some darker cherries and blue frits, with spice and a touch of earth.
Fresh and complex on the palate, light bodied, earthy in texture from tannin, clean on the finish.
Nerd Notes:
Vineyard is a rented 30 acre site in Régnié with pure pink granite soils that are worked by horse.
40 year old (planted in 1985) gamay vines planted in high density, with a deep root system, encouraging competition between vines.
Managed with organic viticulture practices.
Grapes are hand harvested and left as whole bunches.
Semi-carbonic maceration for 13 days in fibreglass, basket pressed, and aged for eight months in three barrels.
Blended and aged for an additional month in fibreglass.
Bottled in May, 2023 - unfined, unfiltered, no added sulphur or other additions.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Bon Pas is the estate of Nicolas Bompas.
Before starting his own estate he worked in some wonderful estates such as Gramenon and Cras. Plus for the last couple of years he has also been a winemaker at Romuald Valot.
In 2021 he decided to settle in Beaujolais and has slowly started to ;purchase vineyards, of which he currently has only a small holding. The vines are organically farmed with the use of horses for the vineyard work. The winery is located in Saint Etienne des Ouilleres and no additions are used including sulphur.
