Where: Wine Shop Upstairs / 234 Marrickville Rd
Time: 6:30 pm to 8:30pm
Oh so you think you can handle our new wine tasting huh. Think you can hang out with the cool kids. I have to warn you, things are going to get pretty RAD.
I was going to write a long blurb on the long history of wine regulation, Egyptian and Greek vineyard labelling and Cistercian vibe monks but that's TOTALLY LAME.
OK I really can't keep that up.
Join us we taste through a selection of French wines that have chosen not to go through the appellation system. Wine that may not see themselves as being typical or may be in a style unique to an otherwise well known region.
MORE INFO!
Europe has some pretty strict rules on making wine. From what grape can be grown where to having to be sold under a different brand/label if producing wines from outside the region their winery is located in. A rule that would seriously mess with many Australian estates.
Things are different here in Oz. Grapes from outside your region, obscure varieties, random bits of timber you found on a beach. Go nuts. I exaggerate but you catch my driftwood.
More contentious are the TASTING PANELS. To be allowed to have your certified regional name on the label (e.g. Chablis) you must pass a tasting panel made up of other winemakers in that region. If the wine does not taste "typical" of the region it can be declassified. Which is not great for things like creativity and being super cool.

Rebels without an AOP. Fantastic wines that have been declassified.
Spaces are super limited!
TERMS & CONDITIONS
Our wine tastings finish at 8:30 pm. They sometimes go a little over but we try to have everything officially wrapped up by then and let people hang back and chat if they like.
In terms of food, we will have some nibbles but not full meals. The snacks vary for each event. It is quite common for people to head next door to the wine bar Where's Nick for dinner after a tasting. It is super good. Book Here.
TICKETS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.
Tickets can be exchanged for future events credit up to 7 days before the event.
This cannot be done closer to the event as we order wines based on ticket sales. If you cannot make the event, you are welcome to give your tickets to someone else, like a gift!
