THE ESTATE

After a number of years working as head winemaker at Grape Republic, Mitsu sought out his own vineyard, renting a Delaware farm in Kubote, Kaminoyama City in Yamagata in 2019, and began cultivating and brewing wine in the spring of 2020. Kaminoyama City in Yamagata Prefecture experiences little rainfall during the growing season and relatively little snowfall. With the ageing population and increasing idle land in the area, Mitsu was aware of the uncertainty for future grape production. He started the vineyard with the intention to create something special and inspire future generations to continue the tradition in the area.

Since then, he has planted grapes that are most suitable to the area with high disease resistance, including Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah. The first brewing from these saplings is scheduled for 2023, with the wine expected in 2024.
