A fresh,, mineral-saline rich white made from rare old vine grapes.
Producer: Giorgio Nicolini
Region: Muggia, Trieste, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy
Grapes: Vitovska
The nose is one of yellow flowers and white apricots.
Flavours of pear and sage surrounding a mineral-saline core, citrus fruit on the back palate.
Crisp on the palate, light bodied, with loads of freshness and structure. Finishes with a long, clean mineral edge.
Nerd notes:
Giorgio Nicolini is a small family winery, run in accordance with old family traditions and a focus on preserving old native varieties (using their vineyard's original 100-year old clones).
The grapes for this cuvee are grown on their higher altitude vineyards, and are harvested by hand using small baskets.
Grape juice is macerated on skins for 36 to 48 hours and fermented with indigenous yeasts. Basked pressed and aged for six to seven months in stainless steel tanks.
Bottled unfiltered with minimal sulphur.
