WINE TASTING: ALSACE... BUT NOT RIESLING
When: Friday 17th OCT
What: Whites and reds from Alsace, the land that Germany forgot
Where: Wine Shop Upstairs / 234 Marrickville Rd
Time: 6:30pm to 8:00pm
Sitting right on the border, Alsace is the slightly more Germanic part of France. A small region that has changed hands through the centuries, resulting in a place that has both croissants AND pretzels. Heaven.
In wine terms it is famous for being that place in Germany what does Riesling (and other Germanic varieties). Alongside this the region also produces the full collection of Pinot family grapes, planted by hot, thirsty monks from Burgundy.
With its diverse soil types and stupid amount of Grand Crus (51!), most Alsace tastings are about cramming in as many Rieslings as possible. While this can be great, and who doesn't like comparing their Steingrubler to a Zinnkoepflé, this can be a bit limiting.
So for this tasting we are going to get a little wild and only try non-Riesling Alsace varieties! From Pinot Blanc and Noir to Sylvaner and Gewürztraminer, plus who knows what else!
Real talk though. This is a great chance to learn about a region that is often presented as a bit one dimensional.
Spaces are limited!
TERMS & CONDITIONS
Our wine tastings finish at roughly 8:00 pm. They sometimes go a little over but we try to have everything officially wrapped up by then and let people hang back and chat if they like.
In terms of food, we will have some nibbles but not full meals. The snacks vary for each event. It is quite common for people to head next door to the wine bar Where's Nick for dinner after a tasting. It is super good. Book Here.
TICKETS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.
Tickets can be exchanged for future events credit up to 7 days before the event.
This cannot be done closer to the event as we order wines based on ticket sales. If you cannot make the event, you are welcome to give your tickets to someone else, like a gift!
