Côte-Rôtie that's elegant, stylish, and full of purity.
Aromatic, with rich red fruits, floral hints, and a peppery tone. Expands in flavour, with ripe notes of plums, redcurrants, and red berry fruits, and a hidden lick of spice.
Rich on the palate, full of depth and structure, yet playfully lithe. Dry. medium bodied, well-integrated tannins, touch of sandy-minerality, rounded by a long clean finish.
Deliciously sophisticated and worth the wait.
Nerd Notes
Syrah from Coteaux de Bassenon, the southernmost terroir in Côte-Rôtie.
Souillard's section of the terroir is a tiny 0.1 hectare parcel, lying at 280m above sea level & facing east, with vines growing in sand and broken-granite bedrock under a thin layer of topsoil.
The wine is fermented in tank with partial whole bunches and frequent pump-overs, before being barrel aged for 20 months in mature oak.
