🍇 Chardonnay 📍

🍷 Soft & Textural Whites

Tasting Notes

Flavoursome and approachable white Burgundy.

Bright chewy peaches and ripe fruit flavours, a light butteriness, and subtle spiced line.

Some butteriness, chewy and bright peach, chewy and flavoursome, quite approachable.

Smooth on the palate, lushly textured and dry, with a bright acid line, butteriness from extended aging.

Nerd Notes

Vines Planted in the 1980s
Location Outskirts of Santenay
Soil Marl and sand
Élevage 10 months in barrel, 10% new
Chardonnay. Elegant, fruity and fresh: the by-the-glass white.

SMALL AND CLASSIC
A cool, wet year with constant mildew pressure and a very small crop.

IN THE VINEYARD
Traditional and hands-on. Vineyards are farmed with reasoned (lutte raisonnée) sprays and moderate ploughing, pruned Guyot and Guyot Poussard for chardonnay and Guyot or cordon de Royatfor pinot noir.
Every row is picked by hand, and many vines are old: La Chatenière includes plantings from the 1920s.

IN THE CELLAR
Whites are pressed, settled and run into barrel by gravity to ferment on wild yeast, with light bâtonnage. Reds are fully destemmed and macerated fortwo to three weeks with gentle punch-downs.
Élevage runs 10 to 18 months in barrel, with modest new oak (10 to 25%). Everything is bottled at the domaine.
