An "old school" skin contact Pesecká Leánka from the extinct Sitno Volcano - fruit forward and refreshing, invoking the golden light of warm summer evenings.
Producer: Pivnica Čajkov - Marek Uhnak
Region: The village of Čajkov, in Levice, Nitra, Slovakia
Grapes: Pesecká Leánka (Fetească Regală)
Aromatic on the nose, with citrus, stone fruits, blooming florals, and a hint of spice. Expands in flavour, with lemon, apricot, and nectarine, baked and stewed fruits, all decadently spiced.
Rich and deliciously weighty on the palate, dry, elegantly grainy in texture, vibrant zesty acidity, and undeniable tannin.
Serve: Marek loves it with grilled goose breast and pickled vegetables, mushroom ragout, or charred cauliflower, and just reading that is making us hungry...
NERD NOTES
Organic farmed grapes the family's Sádovie vineyards around Čajkov, on South and West facing slopes of the extinct Sitno volcano, on well drained and porous volcanic soils (pyroclastic tuff with volcanic glass and ashes).
Hand harvested in early September. The grapes were gently destemmed, crushed, and then macerated on skins for 2 to 4 days in open vats. The free run juice is then moved to oak barrels when it finishes fermentation and is slowly aged for 12 months.
Bottled unfined, unfiltered, and with minimal added sulphur.
