WINE TASTING: RIOJA 

When: Saturday 27th SEP | 3:30 pm to 5:00pm

What: Tempranillo time. The red wines of Rioja.

Where: Wine Shop Upstairs / 234 Marrickville Rd

For our next fancy tasting we will be heading to Spain and the region of Rioja.

There are very few regions in Spain, if any, that are as famous as Rioja. It is the country’s leading DO wine export in terms of value and a major tourist draw, with almost one million visitors annually. It is also one of only two regions in Spain to earn the special little "a" next to its name, as in Rioja DOCa. So special.

As a region it has two faces. On one side, the flatter vineyards of the plains that largely go into bulk and inexpensive wine. On the other, the hills and valleys where many of the wines can be truly exceptional.

Tempranillo is the most important variety and one of the key regions for the variety. Most wines are either Tempranillo or a blend of mostly Tempranillo and Grenache, with Carignan (Mazuelo) and Graciano in support.

ABOUT RARE BIRDS

Our Rare Birds tastings are a chance to try some of the more rare and premium wines that come our way. 

These events are a bit more personal and conversational than our regular events, with a chance to taste and discuss premium wines in a less formal setting. 

For our next event we will be heading to Spain and the hills of Rioja...

Spaces are very super limited! 

TERMS & CONDITIONS

This tasting will finish at 5:00 pm. They sometimes go a little over but we try to have everything officially wrapped up by then and let people hang back and chat if they like.

In terms of food, we will have some nibbles but not full meals. The snacks vary for each event. It is quite common for people to head next door to the wine bar Where's Nick for dinner after a tasting. It is super good. Book Here.

TICKETS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.

Tickets can be exchanged for future events credit up to 7 days before the event.

This cannot be done closer to the event as we order wines based on ticket sales. If you cannot make the event, you are welcome to give your tickets to someone else, like a gift!
