Vigne di San Lorenzo (Filippo Manetti) - Oudeis Sangiovese 2017

A really interesting natural wine from the San Lorenzo of Ravenna. Sangiovese from a single vineyard that sees long maceration on skins followed by 3 years elevage in neutral oak, plus more years in bottle. An elegant yet dry style of Sangiovese. A mix of classic red cherry fruits alongside more complex developed notes of earth, wood spice, pine and even a light wafting of umami somewhere in the background. A unique expression, really interesting and enjoyable.

Filippo Manetti first purchased San Lorenzo in 1998, with his first vintage being 2000. They estate is organic and most technology is avoided. Filippo is very much in the artisanal category, with as little wine making as possible.
