A rich and flavoursome Chainti, brimming in that classic red cherry and earthy character.

Producer: Migliarina Montozzi di Bartolini Baldelli - Antonio and Carlo Bartolini Baldelli

Region: Chianti, Tuscany, Italy

Grapes: Sangiovese and Canaiolo

Quintessential Chianti earthiness in both aroma and flavour, alongside bright red cherry, ripe plum and floral hints, subtle anise and spiced tones.

Silky and rounded on the mouth, with pleasantly dusty tannin and chalky-mineral acid, finishes long with a touch of earth.

Nerd Notes:

The Migliarina Montozzi was founded by Antonio Bartolini Baldelli in 1608. It is now run by cousins Antonio (the current one) and Carlo Bartolini Baldelli, with the estate farming over 500 hectares of natural produce, including 28 hectares of grape vines.

The cousins work with the acclaimed Maurizio Maurri in the vineyard, which is cultivated organically, and with Giuseppe Rigoli in the cellar.

The Chianti Superiore is made from a blend of Sangiovese (90%) and Canaiolo (10%) grapes. The grapes come from 20 year old vines on a South West orientated site, with an altitude of 270 metres, and Argileux silt soil.

The grapes are handpicked, before being fermented in cement, aged for 12 months in 5hL French oak barrels, and then a further year in bottle. Bottled with minimal added sulphur.
